DIRECTV Firmware Monitor

24 April 2009 7 Comments

I’m often asked about the Firmware Monitor and what it does. Here, I’m going to try and explain a little bit of the basics in non-technical terms.

The Firmware Monitor is a web page that provides you with up-to-date information on which version of firmware is available for your DIRECTV receiver.  The information is obtained via the use of a PCI card capable of seeing DIRECTV signals at the 101° (or main) satellite location.  The main page of the Firmware Monitor can be found here.  This page gives you a brief summary of which firmware is available for each DIRECTV receiver.

All DIRECTV based receivers are represented by the information in the Firmware monitor.  TiVo based DIRECTV receivers are not shown.  The following table will provide you with a mapping so that you can find which firmware should be available on your receiver:

Shown Available For
D10-200 D10-200
D10-300 D10-300
D11-100 D11-100
D11-300 D11-300
D11-500 D11-500
D11-800 D11-800
D12-100 D12-100

R15-300 R15-300
R15-500 R15-500
R16-300 R16-300
R16-500 R16-500

The most recent information available is presented here.  In some cases, DIRECTV may have two or more versions available for receivers of a certain type.  This is generally during a staggered release period in which some receivers are eligible for a “new” release while others are still running an “old” release.  In some cases the two versions are available on the same transponder.  As a result, only the most recent version is presented on the summary page.

As noted in the table above, some firmware supports multiple receiver types.  Only the “Shown” version will be presented in the Firmware Monitor charts, but the version applies to any receiver noted as “Available for.”

    HR23-700

I see you’ve got a HR23-600 listed, but not the 700. Just to let you know, my 700 is running 0×312

What I have listed is the H23-600 which is a receiver only (note the missing ‘R’). The HR23-700 is the same download as the HR21-700, just look up the information for the HR21-700 and you will know when firmware is available for the HR23-700.

    What is the difference r15-100, r15-300, r15-500?

    Thanks

PS not refering to firm ware, just the specs.

The only real difference in the various R15 models is the manufacturer. The specs are pretty much the same for each one.

    R15-100 is made by Audiovox/Thomson
R15-300 is made by Philips (now Pace)
    R15-500 is made by Humax

i have four d12-100 that have not been used and are very old. i would like to know how do i check the firmware and if it needed to be upgraded how do i do it. these receivers are used with a old multi-switch and they are not currently working (keeps asking for an upgrade, and once done it ask again to receive the upgrade again)

@michael You should be able to temporarily bypass the multiswitch with a coax barrel connector using one SAT line and the line going to your d12-100. Boot it up and it should take the download right away. Once it gets upgraded successfully you can put your multiswitch back the way it was.

Sounds like you need to get an upgraded multiswitch and possibly antenna. Otherwise you may continue to have this problem and potentially some other problems.
