Comic Con 2010

What is this thing called Comic Con 2010? I’ve never been to this event, but one thing is for sure. Celebrities flock to this event now. It’s almost like the “in” place for everyone remotely connected to comicy stuff on TV (Is comicy even a word?). To be fair, I haven’t really paid attention until last year. Twitter brought about a lot of tweets from different celebs and peaked my interest. This year, the buzz is even louder with the show selling out before …

Still waiting on the iPhone 4

I find myself in a somewhat interesting position. I’m ready to move on the iPhone 4, but I’m stuck waiting for my contract to allow me to upgrade. I’d like to save the $200 extra that it will cost me to get it now vs. waiting one more month. So I sit and wait, envious of those that already have the phone. Yes, envious. Despite the bad press of dropped calls and flaky antenna, I really like the iPhone. I’m ready to move …

Camera3 is my private top secret DIRECTV site

OK, not really. However, it has come to my attention that some people believe this to be true. Let me stop that that right now. I do own the site Camera3.org. This site is running vBulletin 4.x forum software and is a home for me and a group of my close friends. As a result, the site remains somewhat busy, but yes, private. Honestly, there’s not a whole lot of DIRECTV discussion there. Most of the discussion is centered around current events. …

I wrote here a few weeks back about how TV was getting expensive. Today I found an article on CNNs main page that talks about how 1 in 8 will be reducing or eliminating pay TV service this year.
link (CNN.com)
Despite rising cable and satellite TV prices and easy access to streaming TV and movies on the Internet, few consumers have cut the cord. But that looks like it’s about to change.
One in eight consumers will eliminate or scale back their cable, satellite or other pay-TV service this year, according …

Heard this on the radio today.
Someone suggested that folks (teens in particular) could press *65 on their cell phone when they are driving. What would this do? It would make it so that (1) text messages would not come through while they were driving down the road and (2) a text response would be sent back to the originator letting them know that they were driving and couldn’t respond.
This, in my humble opinion, is genius. It allows for an instant response so that you’re not leaving the …

Beginning next week, many television service providers are increasing their rates again. It’s now getting very close to $100/home to have what many people would claim to be a normal level of service. Is $100 too much for TV?
This question is very interesting these days as some never before available options are now becoming available. IPTV is here and relatively cheap (free in some cases). With service providers reaching $100/month and the economy floundering, these other options start to look very attractive.
If you have access to …

I mentioned earlier that DIRECTV was working on Multi-Room Viewing. Well, the cat is out of the bag now. DIRECTV is now pushing a new update that provides Multi-Room Viewing for it’s advanced receivers (HR2x, R22 and H21/23). Look forward to watching your favorite shows in any room of your house.

Well after getting my Internet connection up on Tuesday for a few hours it went down again in the afternoon .. After another phone call, a visit to the AT&T store to pick up a “supported” modem and yet another phone call, I finally got moved to the right group of people to fix the problem.
For some reason my properly provisioned line became improperly provisioned. A flip of a switch by the last guy I talked to and voila .. Success.
AT&T wanted to charge me $99 to talk to …
